Panel-by-panel breakdown
This template has no printed dialogue. The story is told entirely through the artwork, so each panel below is described from the image.
Panel 1
A wide shot of a rain-soaked city street at night, purple light reflecting off the pavement. A woman in a beige trench coat and a man in a dark overcoat walk side by side under one dark umbrella.
Panel 2
A closer shot under the umbrella. The man holds the handle and looks away toward the street lights, while the woman glances up at him.
Panel 3
The two seen from behind. Raindrops speckle the outer shoulder of each coat: the umbrella is too small, and each has been leaning it toward the other.
Panel 4
Split close-ups. The woman pats the rain off her own damp shoulder with a small smile, and the man brushes water from his coat as he looks back at her.
Panel 5
Faces close together under the umbrella, both laughing with their eyes shut as the rain keeps falling around them.

Who this template suits
This template suits couples, slow-burn pairs and quietly caring characters who would never say "I am looking after you" out loud. The five tall panels read top to bottom like a webtoon scroll: a walk, a small gesture, the evidence on the shoulders, and a shared laugh. It works well for rainy-day posts, anniversary content and soft romance accounts in a Korean webtoon look.
When it is not a good fit
It is not a good fit for loud comedy or dialogue-heavy scenes. The emotion lives in the tilt of the umbrella and the wet coats, so extra speech tends to flatten it.
How to remix The Umbrella Always Leans Your Way
- 1Keep one small umbrella and the from-behind panel where both shoulders are wet.
- 2Cast two characters who show care through actions, and give them contrasting coat colours.
- 3Leave the first four panels silent; if you add a line, put it only in the final laugh.
Ways to make it your own
Make it friends instead
Two best friends or siblings share the umbrella after school. The wet shoulders and the laugh still land without any romance.
Change the shared object
Swap the umbrella for one scarf on a snowy night or one jacket on a windy pier. Keep the panel where both people show the cost of sharing.
Add one line at the end
If you want words, add a single line in panel 5 such as "You are soaked too." Keep panels 1 to 4 silent.
Questions about The Umbrella Always Leans Your Way
Which panel shows the twist?
Panel 3, seen from behind. The wet shoulders prove both people were tilting the umbrella toward the other, which is the whole story.
Does it have to be night?
No, but the dark street and city reflections give the purple mood. A daytime version works if you keep heavy rain and a single umbrella.
Can I use my own two characters?
Yes. It is a two-character template. Give them clearly different coat colours so readers can tell whose shoulder is wet.
