Panel-by-panel breakdown
This template has no printed text. Each panel is one "level" and is closer than the last.
Level 1
On a purple sofa, a woman with a high ponytail and a man in a peach hoodie sit at opposite ends with a gap between them, glancing at each other politely.
Level 2
They lean in and share a single iced drink, each with a straw, their faces almost touching.
Level 3
She takes a chip from the bag in his hand and feeds it straight to him, holding another chip in her other hand. Swapping snacks now happens without thinking.
Level 4
He reaches over and fixes her messy hair while she closes her eyes and smiles, completely relaxed.
Level 5
Both of them are under the same pale lavender blanket, squeezed together, mouths wide open in ridiculous faces and laughing.

Who this template suits
This template suits a pair of characters whose relationship visibly moves from polite to completely unguarded. The five levels build in a clear order, so readers understand it at a glance, and it works well as a caption prompt such as "which level are you two on?". It is especially good for a fixed couple you plan to feature again.
When it is not a good fit
It is not suited to stories with conflict or a twist. There is no problem to solve here; the payoff is simply that they no longer have to perform for each other.
How to remix Our Relationship Level Test
- 1Keep the five escalating levels; the order is what shows the relationship changing.
- 2Give your two characters one everyday gesture per level, such as sharing a drink or fixing hair.
- 3Close on the most relaxed action, like both hiding under one blanket making faces.
Ways to make it your own
Turn it into friends or roommates
Go from "thanks, that's kind of you" to stealing food off each other's plates. The level-by-level structure stays exactly the same.
Turn it into a person and a pet
Level 1 is a wary rescue animal keeping its distance from a new owner, and Level 5 is both of them asleep under one blanket.
Add a short line to each level
Lines like "thanks", "want some?", "your hair is messy" and "hold still" make the escalation more explicit and give you a ready-made caption.
Questions about Our Relationship Level Test
Does it have to be exactly five levels?
Five is a comfortable length: an opening, three moves closer and one final release. You can shorten it to four, but fewer than that weakens the escalation.
Which small actions work best for each level?
Pick everyday gestures that signal "I don't need to perform": sharing a drink, feeding a snack, fixing hair, and finally making silly faces together.
Is it better with a fixed couple?
Yes. Because each level is a step closer, a recurring pair can "level up" across several posts.
